A high-performance, tailor-made solution for frozen storage at -22°C
Context & Challenge
In Lyon, an industrial cold storage project required the design of a system
capable of maintaining -22°C in a cold room of
5,000 m³, equipped with mobile racks to optimize floor
space.
The challenge was to provide a
reliable and robust solution that could guarantee
temperature stability under demanding conditions, while also integrating
features that improve energy efficiency and facilitate
maintenance operations.
The Friga-Bohn Solution
In collaboration with
Axima Réfrigération Lyon, Friga-Bohn supplied
an industrial CO₂ direct expansion heat exchanger,
engineered to meet the specific requirements of frozen food storage.
Key technical features:
- Design pressure: 60 bar

ΔT: 6K, optimized for energy performance

Fin spacing: 9 mm to limit frost build-up and improve
airflow

Defrost system: hot water with nested batteries for fast,
uniform defrosting

Thermal insulation: insulated drip trays and doors to
minimize energy loss

Air distribution: return hoods and flexible ducts for
uniform air flow across the cold room
