A Tailor-Made Refrigeration Plant to Overcome Space Constraints

Context & Challenge

In early 2025, a supermarket in Haute-Garonne, France needed to upgrade its refrigeration system to ensure reliable cooling for both positive and negative temperature applications. The store faced two major challenges:

• A very small machine room, making it impossible to install a standard centralized plant.
  
  
• The need for a future-ready CO₂ solution that complied with the latest EcoDesign and F-Gas directives while maintaining operational efficiency.
  
  

The customer required a high-capacity yet compact system, engineered to deliver strong performance under restrictive site conditions.

The Friga-Bohn Solution

Friga-Bohn, in partnership with MCI, designed and manufactured a customized COLD 4P 3N 2I CO₂ central system that could be installed in three separate sections, plus a standalone electrical cabinet. This modular configuration made it possible to fully equip the machine room despite limited space.

To maximize efficiency and sustainability, the plant was equipped with:

• A flat gas cooler with adiabatic kit to ensure reliable operation during summer peaks.
  
  
• A Danfoss liquid ejector to improve energy balance and reduce consumption.
  
  
• Heat recovery modules to reuse waste energy for heating support.
  
  

This solution demonstrates how Friga-Bohn adapts its standard COLD refrigeration systems to solve complex site challenges, providing tailor-made engineering without compromising performance.
