CO₂ Refrigeration Training - Initial Level

Training Objectives

Build essential knowledge of CO₂ refrigeration systems and the practical fundamentals required to work on them with confidence.

  • Explain the fundamental principles and specific characteristics of CO₂ refrigeration systems.
  • Identify the main system components and describe their functions.
  • Apply essential safety precautions when working on high-pressure CO₂ systems.
  • Carry out basic operating checks and perform first-level troubleshooting.

Detailed Programme

1 Day : 7 Hours

Theory

  • Introduction to CO₂ technology: environmental context, benefits and applications.
  • CO₂ refrigeration cycle: transcritical cycle, key principles and thermodynamic behaviour.
  • System components: identification, function and interaction of the main components.
  • Operating conditions: pressure and temperature ranges, safety limits and their impact on system performance.
  • Instrumentation and monitoring: pressure and temperature measurements, sensors and interpretation principles.
  • Safety fundamentals: F-Gas regulations and EN 378, pressure-related safety devices and best practices.

Hands-on training

  • Identify and check the main components and their functions.
  • Read and interpret pressure and temperature measurements.
  • Use tools and measuring instruments specifically designed for CO₂ systems.
  • Carry out system evacuation: prepare the tools, check moisture levels and verify leak tightness.
  • Carry out functional checks: verify operating parameters and validate performance.
  • Perform first-level troubleshooting: identify common faults and the appropriate corrective actions.
  • Work through realistic field scenarios to build confidence and autonomy.
