CO₂ Refrigeration Training - Intermediate Level

Training Objectives

Develop advanced skills in operation, maintenance and control to analyse system operation, carry out recommended adjustments and optimise reliability and performance.

  • Analyse the architecture and operating principles of CO₂ refrigeration systems.
  • Navigate and configure electronic control systems and back up key parameters.
  • Carry out operational checks, adjustments and recommended maintenance operations.
  • Troubleshoot operating faults and optimise system reliability and performance.

Detailed Programme

2 Days : 14 hours

Theory

  • CO₂ system architecture: refrigeration cycle, high-pressure (HP) side management and key technologies.
  • Safety and compliance: CO₂ safety requirements, F-Gas regulations and EN 378, and risk management.
  • Components in detail: functions, interactions and performance of the main components.
  • Instrumentation and monitoring: pressures, temperatures and the fundamentals of control logic.
  • Pre-commissioning principles: inspection points, system preparation and verification of readiness for operation.

Hands-on training

  • PLC use and configuration: navigate the fully electronic control system and back up key parameters.
  • Refrigeration load setup: optimise setpoints, adjust control settings and ensure stable operation.
  • Liquid-line filter cartridge maintenance: inspect, service and replace filters and liquid-line components.
  • Compressor shutdown and adiabatic system management: carry out safe shutdown procedures and understand adiabatic operation.
  • Parallel compression setup: understand the principle and configure its operation.
  • Operational inspection and maintenance: carry out a complete system check and perform the recommended maintenance operations.
  • Optimisation modules: explore advanced functions and performance optimisation levers, depending on the time available.

Day 2 : 9 h 00 – 17 h 00

The second day focuses on system operation: monitoring performance, analysing deviations and applying best control practices. Participants then cover advanced fault diagnosis and troubleshooting through a methodology for analysing recurring faults and real-world case studies, as well as intermediate maintenance (periodic checks and identification of early signs of malfunction). The day concludes with a workshop on analysing simple faults and a final multiple-choice test.
